Scuba Diving and Snorkelling in Phuket
Phuket is an ideal place to dive, whether as an experienced diver or someone just learning. There is a enormous amount of variety on offer, both in terms of diving experience and also in terms of dive operators and equipment.
You can choose from a variety of day trips to dive sites such as Racha Noi (if you do not have the time or inclination to head for the Similans on a liveaboard, this is a good facsimile), Racha Yai (good for novice divers and training), Shark Point (not as dangerous as it sounds, home to the docile leopard shark), Anemone Reef (exactly what is sounds, and excellent for all the little critters), Koh Doc Mai (has some nice little caves, and some not so nice little caves), the Phi Phi Islands offer a nice cross-section of diving.
For those of you with a more adventurous diving spirit, or more time, then consider a scuba diving liveaboard to the Similans, or even up into Myanmar (Burma).
Phuket's sea water averages 29 Celcius (84 Fahrenheit) November - April, drifting down to 26 Celcius (79 Fahrenheit) May - October. The best time for diving and snorkeling is between November - April, however, between May - October it is still fun to dive and snorkel too, with the exception of a few days, when the weather can be very rough.
Equipments and gears for diving can be rented from most of the established scuba dive operators in Phuket, of which there is a never-ending list. Any search for diving in Phuket will turn up a huge selection.
